Chromecore Design Reference

Chromecore (also known as Y2K Chromecore) is a design aesthetic popular from roughly 1999 to 2006, a subgenre of Y2K Futurism. It focuses on metallic-looking objects and products – CDs, DVDs, computers, video games, toys, phones, and digital cameras – having a sleek, chromatic gray texture. The aesthetic encapsulates fashion, hardware design, and furnishings shining with technological optimism, characterized by shiny graphics and textures with a metal chrome, bead blast, or stainless steel finish. It overlaps somewhat with Frutiger Aero.
